Sheffield Wednesday defender Max Lowe has attracted transfer interest amid a troubling summer at Hillsborough.

Following several player departures and the exit of former boss Danny Rohl, due to owner Dejphon Chansiri’s financial mismanagement, Sheffield Wednesday were beaten by Leicester City on Sunday, 10 August.

After a series of late wage payments, the Owls have witnessed former star men like Josh Windass leave South Yorkshire this summer.

However, fan favourite Barry Bannan chose to stay at Sheffield Wednesday despite the dire situation the Championship club are encountering.

Amid their ongoing financial crisis, Sheffield Wednesday are facing Bolton Wanderers in a Carabao Cup clash on Wednesday, 13 August.

Meanwhile, the Sheffield Star’s Alex Miller revealed via X on Tuesday, 12 August: “Gather Max Lowe has committed to staying on at Wednesday.

“Was one of the players to tender a notice period amid off-field chaos.

Big win.

Even though Bannan was sent off against Leicester, Henrik Pedersen will be grateful that the former Scotland international opted to stay in South Yorkshire after Rohl’s former assistant replaced the German.

Meanwhile, the fact that Lowe is staying with Sheffield Wednesday despite the chaos overseen by Chansiri arrives as another welcome boost for Pedersen.

The Owls are undoubtedly set for a relegation battle this term, having lost so many key players, such as striker Michael Smith, but the defender should perform well in the Championship this season.

Lowe established himself as a real asset in S6 last campaign, making 37 appearances across all competitions, including 34 second-tier outings.

Thanks to his time with cross-city rivals Sheffield United, the 28-year-old boasts Premier League experience and should be able to help Pedersen’s men pick up some positive results in the Championship despite their current predicament.

An unwanted League One return is likely for Sheffield Wednesday, but they are a better side with Lowe than without the former Blades man.
