Liverpool played the first of their four fixtures as Premier League champions this season against Chelsea on Sunday.

Having already been confirmed as league winners, the Reds had four games to see out the campaign in style.

Things did not start as planned for Liverpool at Stamford Bridge, however, with Enzo Fernandez putting Chelsea in-front after just three minutes.

With Arne Slot making six changes to the Reds team which confirmed their champions status last weekend, a slow start had always been a possibility.

From there, Liverpool grew into the game and started to play a little better.

But despite the improvement from Slot’s team, BBC Sport journalist Nizaar Kinsella suggested that fans of other Premier League clubs may have had reason to grumble at the Liverpool head coach’s team selection.

After the high of last week, a trip to Stamford Bridge always looked like a tough assignment for Liverpool.

Enzo Maresca’s team are fighting hard for a place in next season’s Champions League and have quality players who can hurt any team.

With the battle for top four so tight, though, Kinsella suggested that fans of those clubs fighting with Chelsea may not have been pleased by Liverpool’s performance on the day.

“Liverpool could lose 4-0 here and it wouldn’t dampen the away supporters spirits,” said the journalist.

“They going through their roll call of songs and are lapping up that title even when under spells of pressure from Chelsea.

Substitute Ibrahim Konate, one of six regulars rotated today, is smiling and singing along while being serenaded during a warm up midway through this half.

“However, maybe fans of the other clubs in the race for Champions League would have liked to see a more threatening, sharper showing from Arne Slot’s men.”

This was a slightly bizarre way of looking at the match from Kinsella.

Despite the scoreline Liverpool actually acquitted themselves pretty well at Stamford Bridge.

Slot was well within his rights to change things up having already won the league and still had a good amount of regular starters on the pitch.

Liverpool owe absolutely nothing to any other club in the Premier League and should approach the final games of the season however they please.

If other clubs don’t like, that’s fine.

If they want to get into the Champions League they’ll have to do it themselves.
