Sky Sports journalist Melissa Reddy has shared why did Liverpool put off their pursuit of Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim.

Arne Slot is up for the takeover at the Merseyside club as soon as Jurgen Klopp bids goodbye to the club and the fans this summer.

Even though the Dutch manager did not appear on the wishlist of Michael Edwards and other club officials at first, the rapid development of the deal has definitely stunned many.

After the confirmation of Xabi Alonso’s stay at Bayer Leverkusen for the coming few seasons, Portuguese manager Ruben Amorim was reported to be on the top of the priority list.

Furthermore, the club had reached advanced talks with the Sporting CP boss amid all the chaos surrounding LFC’s managerial saga.

However, the club quickly cooled their interest in Amorim as he flew to London to hold talks with West Ham United for a potential takeover upon David Moyes’ departure.

Melissa Reddy On Why Liverpool Stopped Chasing Amorim

Although the aforementioned reason was thought to be the sole reason the Reds put off their Amorim chase, recent update indicates otherwise.

According to a recent update by Sky Sports journalist Melissa Reddy, there were two considerable reasons behind Liverpool’s decision.

“He had ticked quite a few of the criteria to get onto the shortlist but the big sticking point was that his playing philosophy was so different.

He likes to use three at the back – that doesn’t really stack up with Liverpool’s squad and their comforts in doing that. Also his long-term vision didn’t align with the Liverpool way. And, remember, Liverpool play the same way through all the age groups up, so you don’t want to disrupt that.”

Reddy stated.
‘I Hadn’t A Clue’: Robbie Fowler Shares His ‘Honest’ Opinion About Arne Slot Becoming Liverpool Manager

Ruben Amorim uses a system where he deploys three centre-backs for defensive stability so that more attacking freedom could be provided for the two wingbacks.

The Anfield giants’ squad structure does not allow them to cater more centre-backs than two and the prospect of the whole team adjusting to a new formation would mean that their pursuit for titles in the 2024-25 season would get hampered.

So the decision of not advancing the process of hiring him might not satisfy many at the moment but the coming days will tell how well the club officials have thought it through.
