The Reds have had some of the best centre-forwards in Premier League history on their books at different stages.

Michael Owen, Luis Suarez, Robbie Fowler, Fernando Torres, the list is almost endless.

Among all these stars though, there is one player who often gets forgotten in these conversations.

Indeed, speaking on the BBC Match of the Day Top 10 Podcast, Micah Richards was ranking the best left-footed players in Premier League history, and he went out to bat for Daniel Sturridge, claiming that he should be there alongside the likes of Phil Foden and Erling Haaland in terms of the best left-footers the league has ever seen.

Richards spoke about the former England striker.

“Why is Sturridge not in this list?

Where is Sturridge?

He should probably be on this list.

At number 10 I have Foden, at number nine I have Haaland,” Richards said.

Luis Suarez took most of the headlines, but there was a real argument to make that Daniel Sturridge was the second-best striker in England at one point.

During the 2013/14 season, Sturridge came second behind Suarez in the race for the Golden Boot, and he was scoring all sorts of goals.

He had it all, pace, technical ability and an incredible eye for goal.

In another world, Sturridge could’ve been England’s starting striker for a number of years and he genuinely could’ve pushed Harry Kane for a starting role for the Three Lions.

Unfortunately, injuries took hold and Sturridge was eventually released by Liverpool back in 2019, and at the age of 34 he’s not had a club for two years, despite not officially retiring.

It didn’t work out as planned for Sturridge, but make no mistake about it, at his best, he was one of the top strikers in the game.
