Michael Edwards seems to be a man in demand despite only rejoining Liverpool last year.
Edwards made his return to Anfield in March 2024 when FSG created the position of CEO of football specifically for him.
This marked a significant development in FSG’s organizational structure, elevating Edwards from his previous role as sporting director to a more comprehensive executive position overseeing the entire football operation across FSG’s growing portfolio.
In his expanded role, Edwards has been tasked with managing Liverpool’s transition to a more cohesive sporting-led structure, which now operates under Richard Hughes who took over many of Edwards’ previous responsibilities.
The restructuring has been part of FSG’s broader strategy to maintain Liverpool’s competitiveness at the highest level while expanding its multi-club model globally.
Now Ben Jacobs for Give Me Sport has reported that Saudi giants Al-Hilal recently made a formal approach to bring Michael Edwards to the club.
It’s claimed they want to bring him on board as their most senior sporting executive.
According to the report, club president Fahad bin Nafel has personally engaged with Edwards to discuss a potential role that would see him revolutionize the club’s sporting structure.
Ben Jacobs adds that while Edwards did not show an inclination to leave, he did engage in talks with the Al-Hilal leadership:
“Edwards has not given any indication yet that he is looking for a new challenge, but there has been notable contact between the parties, which points to the fact Al-Hilal, like many other clubs, view FSG and Liverpool’s success as a strong blueprint to follow.”
“Edwards has become the architect of overseeing successful transitions and building foundations.”
