Michael Edwards has reportedly turned down an approach from Chelsea to become the club's new sporting director.

Edwards is departing Anfield this summer after over a decade at the club and is credited with being a key figure in the Reds’ successful recruitment in recent years.

But according to a report from CaughtOffside, Boehly recently approached Edwards to become Chelsea's new sporting director but the offer was rejected by the Liverpool transfer chief.

He is being replaced at Anfield by Julian Ward, previously assistant sporting director.

Boehly himself has been appointed as chairman and is also acting as interim sporting director.

He became sporting director in 2016 and during his time in the role Liverpool signed a number of key players, including goalkeeper Alisson, defender Virgil van Dijk and forward Mohamed Salah.
