When the name Michael Owen is mentioned to a Liverpool fan, it usually goes one of two ways.
The first being that fans don’t care about him anymore, as he chose to make a move to Manchester United towards the latter end of his career.
The second is that some fans have managed to look past Owen’s betrayal at the end of his career and have remembered all that he did for the Anfield outfit and how good he actually was.

Whichever way you lean, there’s no denying that the striker was an impressive talent and, if he managed to stay injury-free, who knows what more he could’ve achieved.
Throughout his career, Owen played with some of football’s best-ever players, such as Steven Gerrard and Zinedine Zidane.
In fact, there were even times at Liverpool where things just weren’t going their way, but this didn’t stop the Englishman from naming one of his former teammates as the most underrated footballer ever.
While speaking to Canal Plus Poland, Owen was asked who the most underrated player of all time was, to which he replied: “That I played with, Sami Hyypia.”

Sami Hyypia was one of Liverpool’s best-ever centre-backs as he managed to stay in and around the first team for 10 years.
Although he will forever be a hero in the eyes of the Liverpool fans, when looking back at that era, most people don’t hold him in the same regard as some of his peers, which, to be quite frank, seems rather harsh.
