Michael Owen lined up alongside a number of world-class players during his career in which he represented Liverpool, Real Madrid and Manchester United.

And Owen rated one former Red so highly he considered him second to only Zinedine Zidane - a player some consider to be one of the greatest of all time.

The 39-year-old previously said: "The biggest compliment I can give him is he is second only to Zinedine Zidane in terms of his world-class status."

That man was of course Steven Gerrard, who Owen played alongside briefly and who went on to lead Liverpool to Champions League success in 2005.

Speaking about Gerrard in a recent interview with the BBC Sport, Owen said: "I played with some great players - Zinedine Zidane was off the scale in terms of natural ability.

We just grew up playing alongside each other.

This isn't the first time Owen has heaped praise on Gerrard.
