The ex- Liverpool and Manchester United striker was one of countless UK citizens affected by Storm Arwen, which has caused chaos and led to multiple fatalities.

Michael Owen is now free to leave his home after fallen trees had blocked the exit from his house on Friday evening.

"Damage from Storm Arwen has resulted in a small section of the main stand roof being blown off and a significant amount of roof signage and guttering has been blown down," a statement read.

Less than 12 hours later, Owen declared: "We are free.

Owen, however, was less affected by the torrential weather and was able to leave his home by Saturday morning after a team of people arrived at his property to clear the access route.

The clerk of the course, Andrew Morris, revealed: "We've had no power since around 2am and the latest update is we won't get power back to the site until around 4pm, so that is obviously one factor.

Sport was affected on Saturday, as Tranmere Rovers ' home match against Stevenage was postponed after the roof of main stand at Prenton Park was blown off.
