Michael Owen has made an Arsenal and Liverpool claim after the latest round of Premier League action this past weekend.

Many Liverpool fans will have no doubt watched on begrudgingly as Arsenal won out at Old Trafford and took the Premier League title race to the final weekend.

At the beginning of March, it looked like the Reds were going all the way alongside Arsenal and Manchester City – setting up a titanic three-way battle for England’s biggest prize.

However, things took a turn for the worse after Jurgen Klopp’s men were knocked out of the FA Cup at the hands of archrivals Manchester United on 17 March.

That result really seemed to rock the Reds and bled into an April that saw the German’s farewell season come to a disappointing end.

Poor results against Manchester United, Crystal Palace and Everton in the Premier League caused them to drop out of the championship race, leaving Arsenal and Manchester City to contend for England’s top football honor.

But former Liverpool man Michael Owen believes that both Liverpool and Arsenal suffer from the same problem: Manchester City.

What did Michael Owen say about Liverpool and Arsenal?

Pep Guardiola has given Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool FC a great deal of heartache.

The Premier League title has twice (2018/19 and 2021/22) eluded the Anfield club by a mere point, as the Spaniard’s side emerged victorious at Liverpool’s cost.

Although Arsenal have been valiant this season and has made Manchester City work for it, the Cityzens will likely win the Premier League this season – despite Arsenal having the chance to post 89 points.

Michael Owen believes both Arsenal and Liverpool will be scratching their heads in the coming years, wondering why they had not won more Premier League titles:

“They will look back, if they don’t win the league this season, Liverpool have been doing the same for the last nearly decade,” began Owen to Premier League Productions.

“It’s so hard when there are two great teams in one era?

There is no question this Manchester City team is a great team.

“How Liverpool have only won one title in the last half a dozen or eight years is incredible.”

“Arsenal might be saying the same in a few years.”

Like Liverpool in the past, Arsenal do deserve the title based on the entire season, but the only thing that matters is the points tally at the end of 38 games:

“They absolutely deserve the title this season by the way they have played.”

“They would have won it in a lot of other seasons.”

“What could they get?

About 89 points or something at the end of it.”

“It’s a league-winning season that is.”

“To have a great team at the same time as another one is pretty hard to take, but it’s not over yet.”

Unfortunately, it looks like Manchester City will indeed just edge it at the end as they always seem to do.

Arsenal are currently on 86 points, one ahead of Guardiola’s team who enjoy the benefit of a game in hand.
