Michael Owen's FA Cup predictions including Man Utd vs Liverpool

Michael Owen thinks Liverpool will put their dismal league form behind them to earn a huge victory in the FA Cup against rivals Man Utd.

The two sides meet at Old Trafford on Sunday just a week on from their Premier League stalemate at Anfield.

Liverpool have surrendered their lead in the table to United and are struggling for form and confidence heading into the fourth round tie.

But Owen believes the cup can prove to be a good respite for Jurgen Klopp's men, and feels United could fall into a complacent trap.

"We could see quite a change in line-ups and possibly tactics," Owen told BetVictor . "Last week’s match was a highly tactical affair and out of the two teams, United would’ve probably been happier after 90 minutes.

"Now in the cup, I think this could pan out differently. With United at home, I don’t think they’ll be willing to give up as much territory to Liverpool as they did at Anfield.

"If that materialises and United truly have a go, it could leave the door wide open for Liverpool to capitlise on the counter.

"With that in mind, I reckon Liverpool will get through by the narrowest of margins."

Liverpool-United is one of just three all Premier League match-ups in the fourth round, with the next biggest tie taking place at St Mary's.

Southampton welcome Arsenal in a fixture that is hard to pick a winner, but despite conceding the Gunners had turned a corner, Owen fancies the hosts to edge it.

"Ralph Hasenhüttl will again have his side well drilled and I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he gave up some territory," Owen said.

"If he does so, I think Southampton have enough on the counter-attack to nick this one in what I'd expect to be cagey affair."

Owen predicts routine wins for Chelsea at home to Luton, Everton over Sheffield Wednesday, Man City at Cheltenham, and Tottenham on the road against Wycombe.

He also foresees Wolves only just scraping past non-league Chorley by a single goal, and tips Crawley's cup run to come to an end at Bournemouth.

But there could still be an upset on the cards, as Owen reckons Championship promotion chasers Brentford have enough about them to dump high-flying Leicester out of the competition.

"Leicester will have to be wary of this Brentford side. They are excellent going forward and were very unlucky to lose out to Tottenham in the League Cup semi-final earlier this month.

"Brendan Rodgers will most likely make some changes here, however, I expect his style of play to remain much the same.

"Leicester are well in the race for the Premier League title, so the FA Cup may not be top of their priorities, and with that in mind I just feel this could mean a bit more to Brentford."
