Arsenal arrive unbeaten too, following a 1–0 win at Old Trafford and a 5–0 rout of Leeds,With both teams eager to preserve their flawless starts to the campaign, the pressure is already on.
And luckily, for Liverpool, it seems both Alexis Mac Allister and Conor Bradley will be eligible for the clash.
Arne Slot confirmed in his press conference that both players trained this week:
“I think the positive is Bradley has trained the whole week.
Virgil is also OK.”
But for Arsenal, the situation is not as good.
The Gunners could have up to five players unavailable at Anfield with Mikel Arteta providing his updates in his pre-game press conference.
Kai Havertz – out
The German forward is dealing with the most significant injury issue among the squad.
Havertz picked up the injury during Arsenal’s opening weekend and has since undergone thorough surgery.
He is ruled out for the game with Mikel Arteta saying:
“I think it will be weeks, but I don’t know how many months,” Mikel said on as quoted by www.arsenal.com.
“Very unfortunate, very sad for him.
The doctors advised and I think he was very convinced at the end that it was the quickest and the best way to resolve that issue.”
Bukayo Saka – out
England winger Bukayo Saka sustained a troubling hamstring injury in the second half of Arsenal’s 5-0 victory over Leeds United, leaving the pitch in the 53rd minute after scoring Arsenal’s second goal just before half-time.
Further scans have confirmed that the Arsenal star will be sidelined until after the September international break, ruling him out of the upcoming clash against Liverpool.
Mikel Arteta said:
“Bukayo is doing better, but he will be out for a few weeks, unfortunately.”
“No surgery, it’s not as bad as the previous one.
Very unfortunate to pick it up because it’s on the other side,” the Spaniard said.
“So he will be out for a couple of weeks.”
Christian Nørgaard & Benjamin White – doubt
Christian Nørgaard remains a doubt for Arsenal’s trip to Merseyside on Sunday, having missed both of the Gunners’ opening Premier League matches.
He did not travel with the squad to Old Trafford for the season opener, with manager Mikel Arteta explaining after the game that Nørgaard was dealing with a minor issue.
Meanwhile, Ben White has been suffering with a knock – also since the United game.
Arteta does not know whether the pair will be available for Sunday:
“That’s another two that we don’t know yet.
Arteta confirmed Ødegaard felt discomfort and would have scans.
But the Gunners boss could not give a clear answer:
“We don’t know yet?
He’s doing everything he can, we’re doing everything that we can to make him available, but we’ll have to wait and see tomorrow.”
Gabriel Jesus also continues to recover from an ACL problem, adding to Mikel Arteta’s selection concerns.
