After three consecutive second-placed finishes in the Premier League, Arsenal fans are starting to run out of patience with their club — despite Mikel Arteta transforming the club's fortunes since arriving at the Emirates Stadium in 2020.
Arsenal, which could lose Leandro Trossard to Bayern Munich, had underachieved for a few seasons when Arteta arrived, after Arsene Wenger's reign fizzled out before Unai Emery's underwhelming short stint in charge.
Arteta was appointed midway through the 2019-20 season, and by his third full season in charge the Gunners were running Manchester City close for the title.
The following season, Arsenal tallied 89 points — the most since the Invincibles season in 2003-04 — and many felt that 2024-25 would be the season when Arteta's men finally got over the line and lifted the title.

As it was, the Gunners finished on 74 points — still good enough for second place, but falling some way short of winning the title, which Liverpool claimed with four games to spare.
Injuries played their part in Arsenal's struggles, but they weren't the only reason behind the Gunners' disappointing points tally: the lack of a dependable striker was also an issue.
Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus, two of the players who struggled with injuries last term, are not prolific when they are fit anyway, and that is one of the reasons why the club made signing a new striker a priority in the transfer window.
The Gunners now seem to be on the brink of signing Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP, and he is not the only big addition of the summer.
Arsenal is closing in on Viktor Gyokeres
Arsenal has already spent big on Martin Zubimendi ($81 million), while Christian Norgaard and Kepa arrived for $13 million and $7 million respectively.
Noni Madueke is set to cost $70 million, while Christhian Mosquera has agreed personal terms ahead of an $18 million transfer from Valencia
Add Gyokeres at $86 million into the mix, and that's a total spend of $275 million.
Liverpool has spent a similar amount, but it has done so while also raising funds through selling players like Trent Alexander-Arnold, Caoimhin Kelleher and Jarell Quansah, while there are expected to be more departures before the transfer window closes.
Both clubs' summer activity should make for an intriguing season, with changes aplenty to both squads, but there is no doubt that Arteta is under more pressure than Arne Slot to deliver success, considering the Reds' brilliant title success last season.
If the Gunners fall short again, the dissenting voices among Arsenal's fanbase will only grow in number.
