Mikel Arteta said winning trophies is about being in the right place at the right time after he pointed out that Liverpool have secured the Premier League title with fewer points than Arsenal amassed over the last two seasons.

The Gunners finished runners-up to Manchester City last season with 89 points.

The campaign before that they also came second behind City with 84 points.

Liverpool were crowned the 2024-25 champions after a 5-1 victory against Tottenham on April 27 that took their total for the season to 82 points.

The Reds will finish with 91 points if they win all of their remaining three matches - which come at home to Arsenal on Sunday (4.30pm) before they travel to Brighton & Hove Albion and then host FA Cup finalists Crystal Palace on the final day of the season.

The Gunners' sole hope of silverware this season rests on the Champions League.

But, when asked if he felt under pressure to deliver a trophy on the eve of their semi-final second leg at Paris Saint-Germain, who lead 1-0 from the first game, Arteta said: "We are going to try and do it this season but winning trophies is about being in the right moment in the right place.

"Liverpool have won the title with less points than we have in the last two seasons.

So for the past two seasons we have two Premier League (titles).

"You have to be in the right moment in the right place.

Hopefully we will be in the right place in the right moment in Paris tomorrow and earn that right to be in the final."

Arsenal trail by one goal heading into Wednesday's second leg at the Parc des Princes following Ousmane Dembele's early strike at the Emirates.

The Gunners are bidding to reach the final for the first time since 2006, where they suffered a late 2-1 defeat to Barcelona, in Paris.

Asked if Wednesday's second leg in the French capital presents them with the chance to erase painful memories of that loss nearly two decades ago, Arteta replied: "Yes because it gives us another opportunity.

"You're going to get remembered for those moments.

"The biggest stage is when the team needs it, when the club needs it, to deliver those moments and I'm playing with that mindset.

"We are a win away from being in the Champions League final, (playing) in the most beautiful city in the world, against a great opponent.

We are here to make history."

The Arsenal boss will take a late decision on the fitness of Jurrien Timber after he missed the 2-1 defeat at home to Bournemouth on Saturday.

The result ensured the Gunners remain 15 points behind Liverpool, who were unable to open up an even bigger advantage on their closest rivals when they lost 3-1 at Chelsea the following afternoon.

Timber picked up a knock in the opening leg against PSG but he has travelled with the Gunners squad.

Riccardo Calafiori has been out with a knee injury since March but Arteta said the Italian defender is "ready to play".
