Liverpool FC have officially announced the signing of Milos Kerkez, with the Hungarian arriving as one of the worst kept secrets of the transfer window so far.
The 21-year-old joins from Bournemouth in a deal worth around £40 million according to widespread reports.
The Hungarian international completed his medical at Liverpool’s training facilities on Tuesday after flying in from Serbia on Monday evening.
Kerkez has signed a five-year contract with the Premier League champions, keeping him at Anfield until 2030.
Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com in an exclusive first interview, the Hungary international said: “I’m really happy.”
“It’s a real honour for me, a privilege to come to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world, [the] biggest club in England?
I’m just really, really happy and excited.”
“After this, I’ll go home and in my hometown enjoy a few days, and then I can’t really wait to come back and put the training kit on and start to train and prepare for the season.”
The defender’s journey to Liverpool has taken him across multiple countries and leagues.
After starting his youth career at OFK Vrbas and SK Rapid Wien, Kerkez moved to Hungarian side Gy?ri ETO FC in 2020 before securing a move to AC Milan in 2021.
However, he failed to make a first-team appearance for the Italian giants and joined Dutch club AZ Alkmaar in January 2022.
Kerkez’s breakthrough came following his £15 million move to Bournemouth in July 2023, where he quickly established himself as one of the Premier League’s most promising young defenders.
Over two seasons with the Cherries he managed to make 66 Premier League appearances.
The transfer reunites Kerkez with Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes, who was instrumental in bringing the defender to Bournemouth during his time as the south coast club’s director of football.
Bournemouth have already secured Kerkez’s replacement by signing French left-back Adrien Truffert from Rennes for around £14 million.
The fee being paid means that the south coast club are netting a tidy profit for the Hungarian international.
Kerkez’s arrival addresses Liverpool’s left-back succession planning, with Andy Robertson entering the final year of his contract and attracting interest from Atletico Madrid.
