Liverpool are continuing to negotiate with Bournemouth over the signing of Milos Kerkez, with the Hungarian expected to become a Liverpool player this summer.

Richard  Hughes, who originally signed Kerkez for Bournemouth in a £15 million deal from AZ Alkmaar in 2023, has been leading talks.

Personal terms are already agreed, with a club to club agreement the only detail remaining before a medical can be sanctioned.

Kerkez’s omission from Hungary’s squad for Friday’s match against Sweden has further fueled speculation, with national team manager Marco Rossi cryptically citing “various problems” for the defender’s absence.

However, it’s since been confirmed that omission has nothing to do with a Liverpool medical.

And while Liverpool are taking their time to complete the deal, there does not seem to be any risk of a potential hijack.

That’s because the 21-year-old has his heart set on Liverpool.

Mark Douglas of the iPaper has reported that both Manchester City and Real Madrid wanted the Hungarian, but he only had eyes for Anfield.

As a result, City have agreed a deal to sign Rayan Ait Nouri while Real Madrid have focused efforts on Benfica’s Alvaro Carreras:

“Discussions on Kerkez are being led by Reds director of football Richard Hughes, formerly of Bournemouth, and his Cherries counterpart Simon Francis and the move has been in the works since January.

But negotiations have stepped up significantly this week,” Douglas wrote.

“Having sold Dean Huijsen to Real Madrid after his release clause was triggered earlier this summer, Bournemouth can afford to demand big prices for the rest of their star assets.

Kerkez also had interest from Manchester City and Real Madrid but always wanted to move to Anfield.”

It seems like only a matter of time before we see the Cherries defender in the red of Liverpool.

Andy Robertson has alluded to the deal being near to completion on international duty, but feels he still has something to offer:

“We’re not daft, it looks as if a deal could potentially be done,” Robertson said to BBC Scotland.

“But, until that is done, I’ve not even given that a second thought.

I’ve got confidence in my own ability and that drives me forward.”

“I focus on myself – you can’t focus on other people or who you’re competing with.”
