Arne Slot had Mohamed Salah to thank for maintaining Liverpool’s winning start to the season as he prepares to make a key decision at left-back.
Liverpool sit three points clear at the top of the Premier League table with four wins from four so far, but Slot‘s side are yet to convincingly put their opposition to the sword as they did so frequently last season.
Winning goals from the 83rd minute onwards have been required to beat Bournemouth, Newcastle and Arsenal, and the Reds once again left it late to extend their 100 per cent record at Burnley on Sunday.
Burnley’s 10 men had successfully kept Liverpool at bay until Hannibal Mejbri’s “brain dead” handball in the area, which gave Salah the chance to fire home a 95th-minute spot-kick which was allowed to stand despite Jeremie Frimpong’s encroachment.

Although Frimpong‘s encroachment in Burnley’s box wasn’t picked up until full-time, right-back wasn’t the topic of discourse after Milos Kerkez’s first-half horror show on the other side of Liverpool’s defence.
Kerkez was hooked in just the 38th minute after an early booking for simulation, and Football Insider revealed on Tuesday that Slot now plans to rotate him with Andy Robertson for the rest of the campaign.
Robertson‘s contribution was typically industrious as Liverpool dug deep to secure the points at Turf Moor, and the Scot was front and centre of their celebrations in the aftermath of Salah’s winning penalty.

The Egyptian posted on Instagram with a captionless image of his and Robertson’s embrace at full-time, which was liked by the 31-year-old as well as Kerkez after the two left-backs’ contrasting displays.

Football Insider Verdict
Liverpool shelled out £40million to sign Kerkez from Bournemouth in the summer with the Hungarian seen as Robertson’s eventual successor at Anfield, but the 21-year-old still needs room to develop.
Football Insider revealed on 12 September that Liverpool are also ready to launch a pursuit for Salah’s replacement going forward, with Bayern Munich‘s Michael Olise identified for a potential £100m move.
Olise‘s nine-figure transfer may be made to wait until Salah’s contract expires in 2027, but if having both Kerkez and Robertson in the same squad is anything to go by, Liverpool’s best course of action may be to ensure that Salah and Olise’s tenures overlap at Anfield.
