Mohamed Salah Becomes First Three-Time Winner of PFA Player of the Year Award
On August 19, 2025, Mohamed Salah made history by becoming the first footballer to win the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) Player of the Year award three times. The Liverpool forward surpassed previous two-time winners like Cristiano Ronaldo, Thierry Henry, and Gareth Bale. Salah claimed the 2025 award following his outstanding performances during the 2024-25 season.
Salah previously won the accolade in 2018 and 2022, and this latest triumph marks a significant milestone in his career. He was selected from a six-player shortlist including Liverpool teammate Alexis Mac Allister, Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, Arsenal’s Declan Rice, and Newcastle’s Alexander Isak. His peers voted for him, highlighting the respect and admiration he holds within the football community.
During the 2024-25 season, Salah scored 29 Premier League goals and provided 18 assists, significantly contributing to Liverpool’s Premier League title win, their record-equalling 20th top-flight championship. In all competitions, he accumulated 34 goals and 23 assists across 52 appearances, equalling the Premier League record for combined goals and assists in a single season with 47 goal involvements. This exceptional form also earned him the Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year and the Premier League Player of the Season awards.
The achievement adds to Liverpool’s legacy, making it the tenth time a Liverpool player has won this prestigious award. Salah’s goal in Liverpool’s opening match of the 2025-26 season against Bournemouth brought his Premier League goal tally to 187, tying him for fourth place on the all-time Premier League goalscorers list alongside Andy Cole.
