But for Liverpool, the opening of the transfer market represents a very serious period in shaping the future path of the club.
The imminent arrival of Arne Slot as manager, along with the influence of new Fenway Sports Group chief executive of football Michael Edwards and incoming sporting directory Richard Hughes, means there will be a fresh look at the current Reds squad.
If there are some clear areas where recruitment is required, there will be others that aren't quite so obvious as Liverpool look to maintain the progress achieved this season under the departing Jurgen Klopp.

And here the ECHO's Liverpool writers debate exactly what should be done in terms of adding to the squad under new boss Slot.
The engine room for certain requires a top-level established defensive midfielder
Ian Doyle: There are likely to be positions all over the squad that Arne Slot is going to have to address.
In goal, Adrian is poised to leave on a free transfer with Caoimhin Kelleher expected to hold talks over his future.
Vitezslav Jaros, who has been impressing on loan at Sturm Graz during the second half of the campaign, will come into the conversation regards the pecking order between the sticks.
Defensively, the scheduled departure of Joel Matip will leave Liverpool one short at centre-back, although the emergence of Jarell Quansah has eased that burden this season.
The Reds require a bit more pace in attack.
New forward and centre-back both needed
Theo Squires: Liverpool's recent struggles in front of goal suggest the Reds really could do with a new forward this summer, regardless of what happens with outgoings.
With Adrian likely to leave at the end of his contract and Caoimhin Kelleher surely not committing to another season as Alisson Becker's understudy, reinforcements in the goalkeeping department seem an almost certainty.
With Joel Matip out of contract and Ibrahima Konate still prone to injury, a new centre-back is needed also.
And with Stefan Bajcetic hopefully back fit, Liverpool could well have enough in midfield next season after last summer's overhaul.
Quality over quantity
Joe Rimmer: Liverpool and FSG need to greet Arne Slot's arrival with a show of support - and ambition.
And with Michael Edwards back at the helm and Richard Hughes' arrival at the club, the Reds need to kick off the new era by completing some of the things the previous regime could not do.
Namely, the signing of a new, top class midfield option.
I'd like to see a transformative signing like Declan Rice or Rodri at the heart of Liverpool's midfield.
A quality, young centre-back is also required to provide competition to Ibrahima Konate and Jarell Quansah, while if a big name forward is to depart, then a suitable replacement will be required.
But Liverpool certainly don't need quantity this summer.
