Liverpool headed into their meeting with Atletico Madrid under criticism for poor league displays this season but lit Anfield on fire with their attacking display.
After beating Burnley 1-0 on Sunday, courtesy of a 95th-minute winner from Mohamed Salah, the Reds were scintillating in the opening exchanges.
An early free kick after a foul on Ryan Gravenberch set Liverpool up for a shot on goal.
Salah’s mishit free kick struck Andy Robertson and fortuitously found the back of the net.
Salah then found the back of the net himself after bullying the Atletico Madrid defence to create room in the box for a delicately placed finish past Jan Oblak.

Not only did Salah grab a quickfire goal and assist, but he also helped Liverpool make history in the Champions League in doing so.
By scoring two goals inside six minutes, it’s officially the fastest Liverpool have ever scored two goals in the competition.
After the incredible signings Arne Slot made in the summer, it will be his goal to win the Champions League this season and beating Atletico in the opening game will certainly help with confidence.
To make matters even more impressive for Salah, he is now the only player to ever score and assist in the opening six minutes for an English club.
