Egypt continued their strong World Cup qualifying campaign with a win over Ethiopia last night.

The Pharaohs won 2-0 thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush as they have all but confirmed their place in World Cup 2026.

Their nearest competitors Burkina Faso also won their game, but they currently sit seven points off Egypt.

Mo Salah was once again the star of the show, as the country’s greatest ever player continues to etch himself into football history for club and country.

He opened the scoring on the 41st minute with an expertly dispatched penalty kick, before showing selflessness that has defined his career, making him the footballing icon that he is today.

Egypt won another penalty, and whilst the obvious taker would again be Salah, the Liverpool forward decided to give the ball to Manchester City’s Omar Marmoush.

Marmoush converted from the spot, grabbing his first goal of the World Cup Qualifiying campaign, despite Salah being just seven goals off becoming the record goal scorer for Egypt.

A moment that sums Salah up perfectly, and hopefully there will still be time for him to break that record.

It was similar to a moment during the 2018/19 season, where Mo Salah, who was chasing the golden boot, gave the opportunity to take a penalty up to Roberto Firmino, who was on the verge of scoring a hat-trick.

Liverpool will be hoping Mohamed Salah stays injury free during this international break.

The Reds winger has started his ninth season at Anfield well, grabbing one goal and two assists in Liverpool’s first three Premier League games, as he adjusts to working with a new front-line.

Alexander Isak has now joined the ranks, and Arne Slot will be hoping he can get the pair onto the pitch together as soon as possible.

Isak continues to work his way back to full fitness, but it was deemed “too big a risk” to play him last night against Slovenia.
