Liverpool’s title defence is underway but they face fierce competition from their rivals for the trophy.

The Reds are the ones with all the pressure on their shoulders this season, not only due to their success in the league last time out, but due to the summer they have had in the transfer market.

They have done what all good champions have done in the past and strengthened while at the top, something that should put them in good stead to go back-to-back.

However, high expectations can sometimes get the better of people, with Arne Slot having an important job of taking all the pressure off his players.

Mohamed Salah appears to be the first person to do this, though, with the Egyptian naming who he thinks are the favourites to win the league next season.

Over the last few seasons, it has been Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City at the pinnacle of English football, and that looks set to be the case again.

Many would see Man City as the biggest threat due to their know-how and Arsenal not winning a Premier League for over 20 years now, but the Gunners should not be written off.

They have claimed that a striker is exactly what they have needed to win the league for a few years now, and now they have Viktor Gyokeres, they might be favourites, or at least Salah now thinks they are.

“You [Arsenal] have a great team this season and also last season, so you have a really good chance, I think you might even be favourites now,” Salah said on the PFA’s official livestream to the interviewer who is an Arsenal fan.

“You have players who have been together for five years, so I can’t say I wish you luck as hopefully we do it again.”

After opening round of games, Man City definitely looked the most convincing, although there is still plenty to come and Liverpool vs Arsenal in gameweek three might be a telling sign of how the season might pan out.

Despite it being so early on in the season already, Salah is clearly using all his experience to play a few mind games and tricks on both Arsenal players and fans.

Liverpool will actually be the favourites to lift the trophy again due to the amount of money they have spent in the transfer market, although the Gunners have also spent a fair bit.

Both clubs, however, showed resilience in the opening game of the season, with both grinding out results even if it was not the most deserved.

That is the sign of champions but, of course, only one can win it in May, with this season set to be one of the most exciting in a long time.
