The Reds began their quest to win a seventh European Cup against the Spanish giants at Anfield tonight.
Slot’s side, who are the reigning Premier League champions, were knocked out of last season's competition by eventual winners Paris Saint-Germain.
However, they made a flying start against Diego Simeone’s side.
Salah’s free-kick was deflected in by Andy Robertson after just four minutes to put the Reds ahead before Salah added a second a couple of minutes later.

The forward is now two goals away from reaching 50 in the Champions League, and McCoist was left in awe by his movement for the Reds’ second goal.
Speaking on TNT Sports in the immediate aftermath to the goal, the former Rangers forward said: “This is magnificent.
Great goal.”
Lining up alongside Salah for the Reds was new signing Alexander Isak, and Arne Slot revealed before the game his plan was always to start the former Newcastle United star against Atletico.
He said: “This was the plan all along.
You don't start by playing friendlies, you start with a proper training week and at the end of that training week, you can play 45, maybe 60 minutes, and that's what we're going to see with him today."
