Trent Alexander-Arnold was the match-winner for Liverpool against Leicester City, with the defender marking his return to action in some style.

The England international’s second-half strike against the Foxes puts Liverpool one win away from the Premier League title, with Alexander-Arnold making his first appearance for the Reds since picking up an injury against PSG in March.

Since that injury, news broke that Alexander-Arnold was close to joining Real Madrid in the summer, with the Liverpool right-back expected to depart his boyhood club at the end of this season after winning virtually everything there is to win with the Merseyside giants.

Yet Mohamed Salah has now issued a post on Instagram with Alexander-Arnold that could be viewed by Liverpool as cryptic.

As per Salah’s official Instagram account, the Egyptian winger posted a selfie with Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool’s training ground, sparking suggestions from fans that the defender could end up signing a new deal with the Reds.

Salah recently signed a new contract with Liverpool as Virgil van Dijk also put pen to paper on fresh terms with the Anfield side, with Liverpool fans now hoping that Alexander-Arnold pulls a U-turn and commits his future to the pending Premier League champions.

However, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that Alexander-Arnold is on course to sign for Madrid, the chances that the 26-year-old defender makes a stunning decision to suddenly renew with Liverpool looks next to impossible.

Indeed, Liverpool fans can be forgiven for thinking Alexander-Arnold could now sign a new deal after Salah’s recent social media post, but most supporters will also be aware that such an event would be most unlikely given how soon the season ends.

Alexander-Arnold clearly loves Liverpool, with the defender a boyhood fan and coming through the club’s ranks after joining the academy as an eight-year-old, with the defender since going on to reinvent the fullback position.

And with Liverpool now just one win away from winning the Premier League, Alexander-Arnold will want to end the season with a bang, with the defender determined to bring back a second title in front of the Anfield support.

Alexander-Arnold’s departure will be sad for supporters, but after everything the defender has done for the club, the fans will want to give the 26-year-old the send-off he deserves in the final games of the season.
