Liverpool’s Premier League campaign in 2024-25 was not short of tense moments.

The Reds had started the season as champions, knowing every rival would be aiming to stop them.

Arsenal pushed hard for top spot, while Manchester City stayed in the mix for much of the campaign.

For Liverpool, the memories of winning the league in front of their home fans the previous season were still fresh.

The Anfield atmosphere that day had been electric.

It was a moment the players had worked years for — winning the Premier League with supporters there to celebrate.

That feeling had created a hunger to do it the same way again.

But football can be unpredictable.

Results elsewhere could have handed Liverpool the title without them kicking a ball.

When Arsenal faced Crystal Palace late in the run-in, there was a real possibility the Reds would be crowned champions without stepping onto the pitch.

That’s where Mohamed Salah’s mindset became clear.

Salah admitted nothing could match the thrill of winning the title in front of the fans.

“After winning the Premier League last year, there is no dopamine that will come to my body like that time!” he said in an extended joint interview with Virgil van Dijk.

He revealed he was hoping Arsenal would not slip up before Liverpool’s next home match.

“We had a chance also to win the Premier League [without playing] this season, and I’m glad we didn’t.”

“The guys were at the AXA [Training Centre] and were just waiting for [Crystal] Palace to win against Arsenal.”

“And I was just praying inside, we were sitting next to each other: ‘Please not, please not.’”

“Because we wanted to win it at Anfield, you see how special it was for the fans.”

“It was just incredible to win the Premier League at Anfield.”

That season, Salah scored 34 goals in all competitions, moving to third on Liverpool’s all-time scoring list with 245 goals.

He also won the Premier League Player of the Season and FWA Footballer of the Year.

“Being a legend at a club, especially like Liverpool, is such a great thing,” he added.

“It shows you that you worked very hard and achieved things that are difficult for people to achieve.”

“I’m grateful for something like that.”

Salah will hope to continue to add to that list of trophies with Liverpool as they face Crystal Palace at Wembley tomorrow.
