Mohamed Salah was notably snubbed in the 2025 Ballon d'Or rankings, finishing fourth despite an impressive 2024–25 season with Liverpool. Only Vitinha, Lamine Yamal, and the winner Ousmane Dembélé ranked above the Egyptian forward.
During the 2024–25 Premier League campaign, Salah was the top scorer and assist provider, leading Liverpool to the title. Impressively, he contributed directly to more goals (47) than six entire Premier League clubs combined, including Manchester United, who scored 44 goals collectively.
Despite his domestic dominance, Salah's lack of impact in the Champions League appeared to hurt his Ballon d'Or chances. Liverpool were eliminated in the last 16 by eventual champions Paris Saint-Germain, and Salah was unable to make a significant mark during this stage of the competition.
Nevertheless, the season remains a highlight for Salah, who had a relative downturn during Jurgen Klopp's final campaign as Liverpool manager the previous year. In 2023–24, Salah scored 18 Premier League goals and provided 10 assists, and there were publicized tensions between him and Klopp, including a touchline spat in the closing weeks of that season. Notably, Klopp also did not include Salah when naming his favorite managers.
