Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo was among those to react after an exit from the club was officially confirmed on social media.

Chelsea players are still enjoying a well-deserved break following their successful Club World Cup campaign, where Enzo Maresca’s side lifted the trophy after beating PSG in the final.

It marked a sensational debut season under Maresca, with Chelsea also securing the UEFA Conference League title and qualifying for next season’s Champions League, cementing a swift return to Europe’s top competition.

As ever under Clearlake Capital’s ownership, the transfer window has been busy. Chelsea have already confirmed multiple new signings, including Joao Pedro and Liam Delap.

There have also been several departures. Goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and winger Noni Madueke have both sealed moves to Arsenal.

Now, the club have confirmed another exit, but this time behind the scenes, which has prompted reactions from the players.

Coelho only joined Chelsea last summer but made an instant impact, guiding the U21s to a third-place finish in Premier League 2 before a quarter-final exit in the play-offs.

His influence on the academy was clear, with several players making senior debuts during the campaign as the likes of Tyrique George and Shim Mheuka were called up by Maresca.

Now, the Portuguese coach will take the next step in his career, joining Ligue 1 side Strasbourg, who finished seventh under new boss Liam Rosenior and qualified for the UEFA Conference League, giving Coelho his first shot at senior-level coaching.

While Coelho’s departure marks a change in the backroom staff, further player exits within the senior team are expected in the coming weeks.

Reports suggest Chelsea are considering terminating Ben Chilwell’s contract, with no formal offers yet received for the England international.

Football Insider previously revealed that Leeds United were interested in Chilwell, but the side have yet to follow that up with an official approach.

With Junior Firpo departing Elland Road, a gap at left-back has opened up for a player with Premier League pedigree.

However, it remains to be seen whether Chelsea will take matters into their own hands and bring an end to Chilwell’s time at Stamford Bridge.
