An Arriva 79 bus became stranded in the Liverpool FC parade as it got caught up in the celebrations.

An open-top bus carrying Liverpool's Premier League winning stars is making its way through the city today as hundreds of thousands of fans line the 15km route, which began at Allerton Maze at around 2.30pm today.

Fans have gathered in huge numbers at the Childwall Fiveways roundabout, a key point on the route.

The Fiveways has become a sea of red, with fans all dressed in Liverpool kits and scarves while smoke from flares fills the air.

So big are the crowds that a 79 bus to the Liverpool city centre had to be put out of service while it was in the middle of the roundabout.

A picture captured by ECHO reporter Ben Haslam showed the bus, carrying a few passengers, in the middle of the interchange, as it was surrounded by a big crowd of LFC fans.

Celebrations are taking place across the city today after a season to remember for everyone connected with Liverpool FC.

They claimed the title last month beating Tottenham 5-1 and excitement for the parade has been building ever since.

Their 20th league title, which Virgil van Dijk lifted after yesterday's final game of the season, draws the Reds level with Manchester United as the English club with the most league honours.

This year's win is the first league title the club have been able to celebrate in front of fans since 1990, after winning the 2019/20 Premier League during lockdown.

The parade has been so busy it has caused travel disruption today.

Liverpool ONE bus stop is closed and a number of routes are being diverted.

Earlier today, Arriva North West wrote on X (formerly Twitter): "Due to the number of people currently attending the LFC Premier League Trophy Parade, we are currently experiencing significant delays across the network.

"Please allow extra time for your journey and watch our X feed @arrivanorthwest for more details."

Earlier today, the ECHO reported there are several delays to trains travelling to Liverpool due to "overcrowding" at stations.

National Rail warned customers who are travelling between Stafford/Crewe and Liverpool Lime Street that the stations are experiencing a high volume of passengers and are "severely overcrowded".

?At Liverpool Lime Street, there will be a queuing system in place.

Passengers are being asked to allow plenty of time to travel.

Elsewhere, The Strand has turned into a sea of red as Liverpool FC crowds gather for the parade.

Pictures from the major thoroughfare show flares turning the air red and people decked out in their club's colours.
