Alexander Isak’s move to Liverpool and Yoane Wissa’s move to Newcastle United are unlikely to be the last of their kind.
That is according to football finance expert Dan Plumley, who told Football Insider exclusively that more and more players are likely to force their way out of their respective clubs by refusing to play.
Isak sent an emotional message to the Newcastle fans once his transfer saga had come to an end, with Wissa also sealing his move to St James’ Park just hours before the transfer window slammed shut.
Marc Guehi was on the brink of joining Liverpool before the deal fell through on Crystal Palace‘s end, and the England international has continuously been told that he was too nice about the situation.

Instead of pushing to join the Reds, Guehi remained professional, continued playing for Oliver Glasner and scoring a beauty against Aston Villa, before getting stuck at Selhurst Park.
Speaking to Football Insider exclusively, Plumley compared the different situations over the summer, suggesting that the two players who did get their moves have set a dangerous precedent.

I think it’s likely to continue, and we’re focusing on the Isak situation, but Wissa did a very similar thing to force a move to Newcastle,” he said.
“You kind of fixate on the biggest one that we’re talking about, and the biggest number, but there are other players that do this, and there will be other players that continue to do it, so it is a tactic that we’re likely to see happen more in the future.

“I think that comes back to what the price is ultimately going to be dictated by, because that can help a player force a move, or it also can hinder it as well.
It works both ways, but I do think we’re likely to see more of that stuff in the future.
“It’s not just one player that’s doing it; there are often two or three that are making similar moves, so it is a thing that we’ll see continue.”
Manuel Akanji openly admitted to wanting to leave Man City, with Pep Guardiola stating that consistent minutes in the starting lineup could be hard to come by for many this season.
Luckily for the Switzerland international, he was able to sign for Inter Milan on loan, but it was not so easy for Wolves’ star striker.
