The players who were fortunate to represent Liverpool this season will feel extremely lucky to have been a part of such a historic campaign.

Fighting for a place in a team of such high quality and being a valued part of the first-team squad should feel each player with immense pride that they were able to achieve such a feat.

However, those that are often forgot about after such a memorable season is all the players out on loan.

Liverpool have had numerous players out on loan this season and one of those is Rhys Williams.

Rhys Williams has had a frustrating time at Liverpool.

An academy graduate at the club, Rhys Williams was thrust into the first team during the 2020/21 season when Liverpool were completely overwhelmed with injuries.

He formed a surprisingly effective defensive partnership with Nathaniel Phillips, and the pair were crucial to dragging Liverpool into the Champions League places that season, a feat that nearly proved historic as Liverpool went on to reach the Champions League final but ultimately lose it to Real Madrid the following year.

However, Williams has only featured for Liverpool nine times and has since plied his trade at several different clubs since then.

He has been loaned to Kidderminster Harriers, Swansea City, Blackpool, Aberdeen, Port Vale and Morecambe Town.

For Aberdeen and Port Vale he didn’t feature once, and while this season he has spent the majority of it at Morecambe Town and racked up 26 appearances, I doubt it has been a particularly memorable season for him, as the Shrimps finished rock bottom of League Two, having lost 30 matches this season.

The League Two side have now confirmed that Rhys Williams will return to Liverpool after the expiry of his loan deal.

Morecambe Town manager Derek Adams said: “I’d like to thank all the players for their efforts this season, they’ve all worked ever so hard.”

“I’d like to thank Salford City, Barnsley, Barrow AFC, Hull City and Liverpool for trusting us with their players and allowing them to represent Morecambe FC throughout the campaign.”

Rhys Williams will return to Liverpool and with his future at the club extremely uncertain under Arne Slot, it remains to be seen whether he will be sent out on loan again or depart the club permanently this summer.
