Aston Villa captain John McGinn dispatched an emotional goodbye message on social media after a confirmed exit from the club.
Unai Emery’s side have endured a difficult summer window, hampered by financial pressures following their failure to secure a Champions League place last season.
With the new campaign already underway with Aston Villa opening with a goalless draw against Newcastle, speculation continues to swirl around several of Emery’s first-team players.
As reported by Football Insider, Aston Villa may be forced to cash in on key names to stay in line with UEFA’s financial regulations, with McGinn among those who have been linked with a potential departure.
Newcastle and Everton have both shown interest in McGinn, although it is understood that Villa are not actively looking to part ways with their skipper.
Despite his own uncertain future, the Scot turned his attention to a teammate leaving Villa Park, sharing a heartfelt message in tribute following their confirmed exit.

It was confirmed on 17 August that Aston Villa academy graduate Jacob Ramsey has completed a move to Newcastle United.

Villa captain McGinn dispatched a heartfelt Instagram post, sharing a series of images of himself alongside Ramsey.
Tyrone Mings previously delivered a tense response to Ramsey’s exit, which has been closely tied to Villa’s financial challenges.
He made just 19 starts for Villa last season and had been open to a move in search of more consistent first-team opportunities.
Football Insider revealed back in May that Ramsey was unhappy with his situation at Aston Villa, and while Tottenham had shown interest earlier in the window, Newcastle ultimately won the race for his signature.

While McGinn himself has been linked with a move away, Villa are determined to keep hold of their captain.
Former scout Mick Brown revealed that Aston Villa will dismiss any approaches for McGinn, despite the ongoing speculation, especially after Ramsey’s exit.
His departure leaves Villa light in midfield, and with the Scot such an influential figure both on and off the pitch, the club are unwilling to consider his exit.
Newcastle and Everton have both been credited with interest, but will likely be forced to turn their attention elsewhere.
