Aston Villa’s difficult start to the season could soon be over after they ended the summer transfer window on the front foot.
Unai Emery‘s side endured a less-than-ideal summer of business as PSR restrictions dominated the discourse surrounding Aston Villa for a second year running, with forced departures and very little spent.
Aston Villa did manage to retain the services of Emiliano Martinez and Morgan Rogers amid interest from multiple clubs in the window, but Jacob Ramsey was sold to Newcastle in a £39million ‘pure profit’ move.
Jadon Sancho, Victor Lindelof and Harvey Elliott may have arrived on deadline day, but Villa are already in a race against time for the trio to hit the ground running after two defeats and zero goals in their first three Premier League games.

Mings wasn’t afraid to voice his opinion on Ramsey’s departure after Villa were forced to sell their 24-year-old academy product, whose attacking qualities have been missed in their slow start to the season.
Villa’s 3-0 defeat at home to Crystal Palace shone a light on the thinness of Emery’s squad before the transfer deadline, and they moved fast to complete those three late deals for Lindelof, Sancho and Elliott.
Marc Guehi was caught in a transfer whirlwind himself after his goal had sealed the points for Palace, and his fellow England centre-back Mings posted on Instagram to apologise for Villa’s below-par start.

Rogers sent a ‘heart’ emoji in response to Mings‘ message, which said; “tough start but thank you for the continued support… Ins, outs and everything in between but looking forward to focusing on what’s next”.

Football Insider Verdict
Aston Villa winning the multi-club race for Elliott is something of a coup, especially after Liverpool agreed to a “favourable” structure for the deal which resulted in a season-long loan before a £35million transfer.
Elliott heading to Villa Park on loan with an obligation to buy makes him Villa’s player in all-but name, but transfer expert Indy Kaila told Football Insider that this move could be part of Liverpool‘s grander plan.
Kaila told Football Insider on 29 August that Liverpool would’ve launched a late bid for Rogers had Elliott moved to RB Leipzig instead, and with the two clubs on good transfer terms, expect the Reds’ interest to re-emerge in 12 months’ time.
