Liverpool spent over £400m during the latest summer transfer window – but that hasn't stopped the Reds from being linked with a move for Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers.

In the end, the Reds spent £446m - the most ever spent by a Premier League club in a single window, eclipsing the £434.5m spent by Chelsea in the summer of 2023.

Alexander Isak joined for a record £125m, while Florian Wirtz, for £116.5m and Hugo Ekitike, for £79m, both made the move to Anfield, as did young centre-back Giovanni Leoni.

And now Rogers is the latest linked with a move to Anfield.

A report from The Daily Mail days after the recent summer transfer window closed mentioned Rogers by name.

He was named alongside rumoured 'top target' Michael Olise of Bayern Munich.

Now another report from The Daily Mail explains how Villa took a strong stance against selling the 2025 PFA young player of the year over the summer, which put off Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur from making any official approaches.

They even wanted to renew Rogers' contract but this has not happened.

Villa cannot compete in the long-term with the Premier League's top clubs 'without taking risks'.

It is said only Rogers and Boubacar Kamara - though the latter's injury record might prove to be an issue - could 'command the kind of fees that solve financial issues at a stroke'.

Therefore Liverpool could find themselves at an advantage in future if Villa reluctantly accepted to sell the attacking midfielder.

Rogers' current contract at Villa Park lasts through to 2030 as things stand.

He signed this in November of last year as a reward for his progress made since his £15m arrival just 10 months earlier from Middlesbrough.

During the September international break, while on England duty, Rogers spoke to talkSPORT.

"It means everything.

As a player, when you feel wanted, loved, and you feel like they want you to be there, and want you to be a key member of the squad, it means everything to you as a player," he explained.

"As a player, it’s alright having outside noise and fans liking you, that’s one thing, but to have the manager, who picks the team, to back you - that means everything.

"He just allows me to play football and express myself.

He knows I won’t always get it right or get it perfect, but he just trusts me to a point where he knows I will give it my all.

"If it doesn’t work, then it’s OK - we’ll try again and go to the next game.
