Liverpool supporters got a look at four of their six summer signings during their first pre-season friendly of the year on Sunday.

Reds fans were looking forward to getting a glimpse of new record signing Florian Wirtz, but were forced to wait as the German was deemed not yet ready to play.

They were treated to debuts from Jeremie Frimpong, Giorgi Mamardashvili and Milos Kerkez, however, with goalkeeper Freddie Woodman also playing against his former team.

Mamardashvili enjoyed his moment after waiting almost a year since joining, while Kerkez has proved an instant hit with Liverpool supporters.

Meanwhile, Frimpong displayed his outstanding pace after being introduced at half time, giving Liverpool fans a taster of what is to come this season.

And having got the first appearance out of the way in difficult circumstances, the 24-year-old was praised by his new Liverpool teammates.

Sunday’s match was a tough occasion for the new Liverpool players to make their debuts in.

With the day all about remembering Diogo Jota, they would have been forgiven for feeling like imposters.

Nevertheless, the Liverpool squad are a great bunch and they are clearly doing their best to make Frimpong and co feel involved, despite the tragic circumstances.

That was clear in their reaction to Frimpong’s Instagram post following his debut with the Reds.

“Together.

Thank you fans,” wrote the right-back, along with a hashtag of the number 20.

“My G,” Kerkez replied, with a love heart emoji.

Kostas Tsimikas also replied with a heart, while Dominik Szoboszlai posted a face with spiral eyes comment.

Curtis Jones seems to be getting along nicely with Frimpong, and the Scouser left a heart-warming comment simply stating: “My boy,” as well as the obligatory love heart.

Sunday was never going to be easy for the likes of Frimpong to make an impact.

Nevertheless, the Dutchman still caught the eye a little after coming on in place of goal scorer Conor Bradley.

It was interesting that Arne Slot chose to introduce Frimpong as an orthodox right-back, although it would be remiss to read too many clues into the first match of pre-season.

From here, things should hopefully start to become a little more normal for Liverpool.

Jota’s tragic death will reverberate around the club for some time to come, but with the first game since his passing now navigated, the focus will slowly start to return to the football.

Frimpong is clearly settling in well despite the devastation around the squad, and as those bonds continue to grow, we expect to see much more from him moving forward.
