Liverpool fans have had a wonderful couple of months after seeing their team win the Premier League title in May.

Having waited more than 30 years to celebrate a league win in person, the scenes of celebration at Anfield are unlikely to ever be topped.

And with the mood around the club still jubilant, the Liverpool owners have attempted to keep the feel-good factor going by splurging serious money in the transfer market.

Building from a position of strength is always a good idea in football and that is exactly what Liverpool are doing this summer.

Almost £150m has been spent on securing Bayer Leverkusen pair Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz, as excitement ramps up ahead of the new Premier League season.

And after seeing his friend join him as a new Liverpool player, Frimpong has admitted that it is not only the fans who cannot wait for the campaign to start.

Liverpool have arguably never had a signing like Wirtz before.

The last ready-made, world-class attacking player to be signed was Fernando Torres way back in 2007.

Even then, Torres did not cost anything like the expense Wirtz has arrived for, even taking inflation into account.

Having played with him for four-and-a-half years at Leverkusen, Frimpong is well aware of how good the 22-year-old is.

And when asked by ESPN Netherlands how excited he is about linking up with Wirtz at Anfield, the Dutchman could not contain his excitement.

“I’m really excited,” Frimpong grinned.

“I’m really looking forward to playing with the Liverpool squad and of course Flo, my boy is joining me, so it makes it extra nice.

So, I’m really excited and I can’t wait for it to start.”

Although it is not always the biggest factor in settling in, having familiar faces for a player joining a new club is undoubtedly important and can make the process much easier.

And according to Frimpong, the presence of Wirtz as well as the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch and Cody Gakpo makes Liverpool a ‘comfortable environment’ for him to join.

I’m really excited.”

Frimpong also touched on the part Arne Slot played in his move to Liverpool, confirming that it was impossible to say no to the man who had just lifted the Premier League at the first attempt.

“When I first spoke to him [Slot] he was telling me that he would like me to come to Liverpool and that I would fit into the squad,” said the right-back.
