The Reds have been on the lookout for a new boss since and they have been linked with about a dozen names.
Now, after all the speculation, it looks like they’ve got their man.
Arne Slot is all set to take charge of the club this summer.
The Dutchman appears to be the chosen one and although an official announcement is yet to arrive, it has been claimed that the deal is done.
However, Carragher actually wanted someone else to get the job instead of Slot.
Liverpool’s plans changed at that point, and after a lot of speculation, it looks like they have decided to hand over the reins to Arne Slot of Feyenoord.
On CBS Sports yesterday, Kate Abdo asked Jamie Carragher if the Dutchman would’ve been his pick for the Liverpool hot seat.
“No, my choice would’ve been Xabi Alonso,” he replied.
When Abdo asked if he would’ve taken Slot after finding out that Alonso didn’t want to come, Carragher said: “I don’t think right now we’re in an era of sort of the managers of the past, you think of Mourinho, Conte, big names you’ve see Manchester United got over the years, those managers aren’t there, or even Chelsea have even got in the past.
Ruben Amorim of Sporting Lisbon and Arne Slot of Feyenoord were the two names.”
Xabi Alonso would’ve been a great option for Liverpool, but Reds fans will have to do with Arne Slot for now, and he’s not a bad option at all.
Yes, the Feyenoord boss hasn’t won the league title this season like Alonso has at Leverkusen, but he has still done a magnificent job.
He won the Eredivisie title last season and has picked up the Dutch Cup this time around, which is an excellent achievement.
If you, like us, have been wondering who actually has the better stats as the manager of their current club – Alonso or Slot – you’ve come to the right place to find out.
It’s tight, but Alonso just edges it!
