One thing we’ve learned ever since Jürgen Klopp and Michael Edwards arrived at Anfield is that Liverpool do plenty of homework on transfers.

That was evident when the Reds pulled out of a deal to sign Nabil Fekir at the last minute in 2018.

As The Telegraph revealed, the Frenchman underwent a medical, although enough concern arose for Liverpool to pull the plug on the deal, and that was that.

Now, Klopp and Edwards could be in for a repeat of this problem.

According to The Athletic, Liverpool are finalising a deal for RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate, who has a €40 million (£34.6 million) release clause.

However, when disputing that claim, Bild mentioned that the Frenchman has not been used much in the past year-and-a-half due to several torn muscle fibres and an ankle injury.

The sole reason Liverpool are looking for another centre-back is because the likes of Joel Matip and Joe Gomez can’t seem to stay fit.

In that respect, the last thing Klopp would want from a new defensive recruit is for them to be injury prone as well.

By all means, get Konate down to Merseyside for a medical and examine him, for he is a fine prospect with bundles of potential.

However, Bild’s injury news is a concern, and there’s a chance that something could be flagged up should he undergo a medical.

Hopefully, all goes well should a medical occur.

However, the Reds might be wasting their time with another Fekir, given Konate’s worrying injury history.
