Naby Keïta has been suspended by Werder Bremen for the rest of the season.

The Bundesliga club confirmed the decision after the former Liverpool midfielder refused to travel with his team on Sunday.

The fallout began before Bremen’s trip to Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend.



He took to Instagram to give his side of the story, saying: "I wish to clarify my situation at my club Werder Bremen.

“Ever since I arrived at this magnificent club, I have always shown my professionalism.

And to my teammates, good luck for the match."

Bremen though has now confirmed it has suspended Keïta for the remainder of the season, as well as hitting him with a ‘substantial fine’.

That’s why we’ve been left with no alternative.”

It continues what has been a nightmare season for Keïta since he left Liverpool last summer.
