Napoli are reportedly preparing to send in a second bid for Darwin Nunez.
Nunez and Napoli have been one of the major talking points in the summer transfer window.
The Uruguay attacker is set to leave Liverpool this summer, and Napoli have emerged as his destination of choice.
Nunez has failed to live up to expectations at Anfield, and the club and the player have decided it is best they part ways this summer.
Several clubs were reported to be interested in signing him.
Atletico Madrid and Saudi Pro League sides were credited with interests earlier in the window.
However, Napoli are now leading the race for the 27-year-old.
Antonio Conte’s side are said to have received encouragement from Nunez that he is keen on joining this summer.
They are now doing all they can to secure Nunez’s signature.
According to a recent report from Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the Serie A club has submitted their first bid.
Di Marzio claimed that an offer of €50 million plus an extra five in bonuses was submitted in recent days by Napoli.
Fabrizio Romano provided an update on the offer, revealing that Napoli’s bid of €50 million plus an extra five million in bonuses that was being reported is not going to be enough.
“50 million euros was never going to be enough for Liverpool despite the reports we had in the recent hours,” Romano asserted.
Napoli know that with that kind of money, Liverpool will never accept a proposal for Darwin Nunez, but in the next days/weeks, Napoli are expected to try again for Darwin.
He remains their top target.”
And now a report from CaughtOffside has revealed that Napoli are ready to go higher for Nunez.
They also revealed that Antonio Conte’s side are willing to bid as much as €60m in total for Nunez.
“Nunez has already agreed on personal terms with Napoli and is open to the move,” the report said.
“Now, Napoli are ready to go higher?
The new bid is expected to be above €55m, and although the final number has not been decided yet, the club’s intention is clear: they want to exceed €60m in total to try and close the gap with Liverpool’s demands.”
“The source added that Liverpool are ‘still asking for more than €65m, possibly even over €70m’, with the deal described as looking ‘complex’, but with Napoli determined to find a solution.”
Meanwhile, it’s been reported that Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has personally intervened in discussions, in dialogue with Fali Ramadani – the agent tasked with managing the possible transfer.
