Sky Sports Italy has provided a worrying update on Napoli and their pursuit of Darwin Nunez.
The Liverpool striker is reportedly wanted by Napoli, who are said to have made him one of their top summer transfer targets.
With Victor Osimhen set to leave this summer, the Serie A champions are in the market for a new No.
9.
Nunez, who has decided he wants to leave Liverpool this summer, has emerged as one of their primary options for that position.
The Uruguay striker has failed to live up to expectations at Anfield, and the club and the player have decided it is best they part ways this summer.
Several clubs were reported to be interested in signing him.
Atletico Madrid and Saudi Pro League sides were credited with interests earlier in the window.
However, Napoli are now leading the race for the 27-year-old.
Antonio Conte’s side are said to have received encouragement from Nunez that he is keen on joining this summer.
According to a recent report from Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the Serie A club has submitted their first bid.
A follow-up report from Fabrizio Romano revealed that Napoli’s bid of €50 million plus an extra five million in bonuses that was being reported is not going to be enough.
CaughtOffside then added to the story by claiming that Napoli are now ready to send in a second improved offer for Nunez.
However, Sky Italy have now made a seemingly contradictory claim about Nunez and Napoli by revealing that the Serie A champions are have ‘reduced contact with Liverpool for the striker’.
According to the report, Antonio Conte’s side has reached an agreement with Udinese striker Lorenzo Lucca, who they had earmarked as an alternative for Darwin Nunez.
“Napoli is increasingly close to finalising the signing of Lorenzo Lucca,” the Sky Italia report said.
“The club is currently in talks with Udinese to secure him permanently, thus avoiding a possible Atalanta move.
The parties are working on finalising the details regarding bonuses, with De Laurentiis’ club having already reached an agreement on the Udinese striker’s contract.
“Napoli’s goal is to complete Lorenzo Lucca’s move to the Azzurri by the beginning of next week, with the necessary medicals and a signed contract, so as to hand over their new striker to Antonio Conte in time for the start of the pre-season?
The deal will be worth around €34 million, with Napoli having now reduced their contact with Liverpool over Nunez.”
