Liverpool will have to sell some key stars this summer due to the size of their current squad.

There is never a dull moment with the Reds and this week is no exception, with the club announcing the signing of Hugo Ekitike and also weighing up a move for Alexander Isak.

For the latter to occur, however, some sales will be needed to recoup some money while trimming down an ever-growing squad.

One player who has been heavily tipped with a move away from Anfield is Harvey Elliott, with the Englishman certainly not short of suitors.

After setting the Under 21 European Championships alight, the 22-year-old’s market value has only sky-rocketed, with Liverpool wanting between £40m-£50m if they are to let him go.

West Ham are one of the clubs keen to sign him, and amid this interest, Elliott himself has made a rather tear-jerking admission.

Elliott is a player adored on the red half of Merseyside, with the midfielder a boyhood fan that leaves everything on the pitch.

He clearly has quality in abundance, but he simply did not get the chance to show it last season, hence why he will likely depart.

However, Elliott’s reluctance to leave is no secret and speaking to The Anfield Wrap, he admitted that he feels like he might have to be selfish for the sake of his own career.

“If I had my way, I’d be at Liverpool for the rest of my career,” Elliott said.

“I love everything about the club, but at the same time I kind of need to be selfish and see what’s best for me.

It’s still something I need to review.”

With the World Cup just next year, Elliott faces a race against time to prove to Thomas Tuchel why he should be in his team, with his chances of achieving this at Liverpool being very slim.

The Englishman started just two Premier League games last season and managed just 822 minutes across all competitions, a figure that could drop even further given the signings the Reds have made this summer.

Elliott is not short of suitors and he should definitely listen to multiple proposals, but RB Leipzig would be a better destination for him than West Ham.

Not only will he get to try a new venture outside of England, but the Bundesliga has been a good hunting ground for young English talent over recent years.

And, for the first time since their top-flight arrival in 2016, they will not be playing in Europe, suggesting Elliott has the chance to be the man to lead them back to where they belong.

Xavi Simons, who was linked with Liverpool at one point, looks set to go to Chelsea as well, freeing up a spot for Elliott to come in and shine.
