‘Need to see them’: Ben Foster urges two new Liverpool signings to do exactly what Isak did to be successful

Liverpool have signed some top talents this summer but some of them might have some work to do first.

The Reds really have given their fans a summer to remember and the best thing for them is that it is far from over.

Liverpool get their title defence underway on Friday evening against Bournemouth, although they are still working harder than ever to get more deals over the line.

However, with many of them already completed, players will be able to make their official league debuts for the club, with all eyes on this encounter.

However, despite many arriving for big transfer fees and having a wealth of experience behind them, Ben Foster believes that two players might struggle to adapt and might need to follow in the footsteps of Alexander Isak.

Liverpool are still chasing Isak and it is no surprise either as he is one of the best strikers in the world, although that has not always been the case.

When he first arrived at Newcastle, expectations were high and although he was decent, there was one part of his game that was lacking a little bit.

Foster believes that he was originally a little weak and would get pushed off the ball too easily, something he has clearly changed as he is now powerful and hard to dispossess.

And, with that, the former goalkeeper believes both Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike need to do the same so they can adapt to the demands of the league, if not, they might just struggle.

“Sometimes I look at the physical build of players and I think Ekitike and Wirtz both look a little bit lightweight at the minute.

I used to think this about Isak as well,” Foster said on the Fozcast.

“When he first signed for Newcastle, I used to look at him and think, ‘I don’t know if you’re going to be able to deal with the physicality of the Premier League.’ Over the last couple of years, he’s really worked hard on that side of it, and he seems to have put a bit more muscle on.

“He looks like he now knows how to use his body and keep players away.

But just thinking about Wirtz and Ekitike, I need to see them put a little bit more muscle on before they can really hit the ground.”

Foster certainly makes a good point and the demands of the Premier League are much different compared to the Bundesliga.

However, a player like Wirtz has never had to rely on strength and likely never will, with his style of play so unique that he should be a massive hit at Anfield.

His ball-carrying ability is second to none and he can glide past players so effortlessly, with all most people can really do is foul him.

Similarly to the likes of Eden Hazard and Bukayo Saka in the past, it would be no surprise to see the 22-year-old one of the most fouled players in the league next season, although this is something even strength cannot stop.
