Gary Neville took to social media to issue an apology for his commentary during Manchester United's win at Burnley.
United fans on social media were particularly critical of Neville's take on the Shaw incident and Neville took to Twitter after the match to have his say.
On Tuesday night, Neville, by his own admission, had an off night on co-commentary duty for the match and is likely to be involved alongside Jamie Carragher for Sunday's big clash.
It means United hold a three-point lead over title rivals Liverpool ahead of the two teams' meeting at Anfield on Sunday, with Jurgen Klopp's men knowing three points will lift them back above United.
Liverpool fans have previously complained about Neville's bias towards United and his latest performance won't have eased their fears ahead of the weekend game.
"I think it's a foul definitely by Luke Shaw because he misses the ball and then follows through," Neville said.
Luke Shaw had moments earlier been the centre of attention in a bizarre first-half moment that saw the United left-back booked and Robbie Brady's caution rescinded following a double VAR check on possible red cards for both players.
