Liverpool Close to Signing Parma Defender Giovanni Leoni
Liverpool FC are intensifying their efforts to sign Giovanni Leoni, the highly rated teenage centre-back from Parma. The 18-year-old, who made his Serie A debut just nine months ago, has already impressed widely and earned a call-up to the Italy under-21 squad. Leoni is seen as one of Europe's brightest defensive talents, with Liverpool’s recruitment team viewing him as a key part of their defensive rebuild.
Despite no direct contact having been made yet with Parma, reports suggest the Italian club would require a fee in the region of €30 to €35 million plus bonuses to consider a sale. Liverpool are reportedly prepared to meet this valuation, and there is talk of a potential loan-back agreement allowing Leoni to remain at Parma for the 2025/26 season, although top journalist Fabrizio Romano has noted Liverpool currently have no plans to loan him out if he joins the club.
Leoni has attracted interest from other top clubs, notably Inter Milan, who had him on their summer shortlist. However, they paused their pursuit due to significant expenditure elsewhere and may lose out as Leoni has reportedly accepted Liverpool’s contract offer enthusiastically.
TNT Sports commentator Adam Summerton has described Leoni as a future star, reflecting the growing excitement among Liverpool supporters. Negotiations seem to be advancing alongside Liverpool’s efforts to reinforce their defence further, including targeting Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi.
Giovanni Leoni’s combination of youth, talent, and immediate impact has Liverpool fans hopeful he will be a cornerstone in the club’s defensive lineup for years to come.
