Liverpool's first signing of the summer, Jeremie Frimpong, has sent a classy tribute to former club Bayer Leverkusen as he ends his four-and-a-half-year spell playing in Germany.

The Reds have landed their first new player after triggering his £29.5m release clause.

The Netherlands international, 24, was announced as a Liverpool player on the same day that it was confirmed Trent Alexander-Arnold will be heading to Real Madrid in a deal worth £10m on June 1.

For Leverkusen he made 190 appearances in total, scoring 30 and assisting 44 goals, and most importantly winning the Bundesliga and cup double in 2023/24.

With that, his message to his now-former club is an elegant and classy one, describing Die Werkself as: "A very special club in my hopefully long career as a pro.

"What we've all achieved here is incredible.

Winning the double was a moving and unforgettable experience for me because so few people believed we could do it.

"I will always be a Leverkusener.

"This club remains an important part of my personal journey and I thank Bayer 04 and the fans for a fantastic time."

Rolfes said: "Jeremie is a perfect example of the path taken by Bayer 04 Leverkusen with success so often: Bringing in a young, highly talented player from a smaller league, developing him into a key player to achieve targets and thereby making him attractive to absolute top European clubs.

"With this transfer we can and will shape the Leverkusen squad of the future.

Jerry was a key player in our double winning team, became a crowd favourite with his special approach and also thanks to his good performances.

"Now he wants to show what he can do in the Premier League at Liverpool.
