Ex-Liverpool defender Glen Johnson believes Jeremie Frimpong has a fight on his hands to nail down a starting place(Image: Nikki Dyer - LFC/Liverpool FC via Getty Images)
New Liverpool signing Jeremie Frimpong is in for a fight to lock down his spot in Arne Slot's XI this season.
That's according to former Reds defender Glen Johnson, who believes Conor Bradley will give the summer recruit a stiff run for his money.
Frimpong, 24, joined Liverpool as their first arrival this summer, signing a five-year deal after the Reds triggered the £29.5million release clause in his Bayer Leverkusen contract.
And Johnson believes Bradley won't hand over the reins so easily after playing his part in last term's Premier League triumph.
"I've seen Frimpong play a few times.
Obviously, he likes to get forward, he'll be a good player that can help push and develop with Conor Bradley," he told the ECHO, courtesy of 888sport.
But according to Johnson, who won the League Cup with Liverpool in 2012, that doesn't mean Bradley is by any means seen as anyone's back-up.

"Liverpool themselves don't care who it is, they just want the best one in that position," he continued.
Frimpong was accustomed to operating in more advanced roles under Xabi Alonso at Leverkusen, while Bradley has operated in a wing capacity for Northern Ireland.
Liverpool now have a similar battle for minutes at left-back after signing Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth this summer.
