Reports from Germany have provided a new angle to Liverpool’s reported interest in Olyimpique Lyon midfielder Rayan Cherki.

The French youngster’s name has recently been mentioned within the corridors of Liverpool rumour mill.

Liverpool’s interest in Cherki dates back to last summer and in January, when they were said to be monitoring his situation.

The interest has remained, as Benjamin Quarez of Le Parisien recently reported.

Per Quarez, Liverpool has now made a fresh enquiry over the 21-year-old with a summer move in mind.

Several other reports have linked the him with a possible move to Anfield this summer, given his quality and apparent low price tag.

Meanwhile, Cherki recently announced that he would be leaving Lyon this summer.

The 21-year-old playmaker made the emotional announcement following Lyon’s final match of the season against Angers, declaring: “I think that was my last game with Lyon.

Thanks to OL, the coach, the staff, the president, my teammates, and all people at the club”.

Lyon amplified the finality of his exit by publishing a video montage of his emotional goodbye on their official Twitter account, set to melancholic music and captioned with a crying emoji.

The footage showed Cherki visibly distraught as he waved to fans, effectively serving as the club’s tacit confirmation of his departure.

With Cherki’s departure from Lyon now as certain as Trent Alexander-Arnold’s Liverpool exit, the question is now about where the Frenchman will play next.

Amid the flurry of clubs interested in him, Liverpool is said to be his preferred next club.

However, the latest reports from Germany claims that the midfielder does not feature heavily in Liverpool’s current summer plans.

According to Sky Germany reporters Florian Plettenberg and Patrick Berger, Cherki currently is not a priority for Liverpool., as the club are focused on other targets, including Florian Wirtz.

The report also revealed that the midfielder is now wanted by Liverpool’s rivals, Manchester United.

“Manchester United have a strong interest in signing Rayan Cherki and are competing with Borussia Dortmund,” Berger wrote on X.

“Manchester United reps held talks with Lyon when they met in the Europa League.

The result of today’s final may play a role in Cherki’s decision.

“Liverpool are currently not making any moves.

As things stand, he’s not a priority target for LFC this summer?

Their focus is on other priorities, such as Florian Wirtz.”
