Newcastle United want to reach a conclusion over the future of Alexander Isak “as soon as possible” after turning down Liverpool’s initial bid.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what sources have told him about the 25-year-old’s future and whether he could remain at St James’ Park.
Eddie Howe’s side are keen to put an end to the speculation surrounding his future, even if it means accepting a new offer, and have now set their sights on his replacement.
This comes after Football Insider revealed on 2 August that Liverpool could “shatter” the British transfer record with a new bid for Isak.
Newcastle, meanwhile, have seen a £69.9million offer rejected by RB Leipzig for Benjamin Sesko as they push ahead with plans to replace their star striker.
However, Football Insider revealed on 3 August that Sesko wants to join Man United, who are confident of beating the Magpies to his signature.

Football Insider revealed on 28 July that Liverpool are increasingly “confident” of signing Isak and are planning to lodge a new bid imminently.
Slot’s side are willing to pay £120million plus add-ons to land the Sweden international and club-to-club talks continue behind the scenes at St James’ Park.
O’Rourke explained that Newcastle do not want to have the rest of their window derailed by uncertainty surrounding Isak and are hoping to reach a conclusion soon.
“There needs to be a resolution on this soon for Newcastle’s sake,” he told Football Insider.
“It’s been a really difficult window for Eddie Howe for all sorts of reasons, they’ve missed out on other players, if they were to lose Isak it would be a huge blow.
“But the whole saga is casting a shadow over Newcastle going into the new Premier League season.
“Newcastle are within their rights, he’s on a long-term contract and they want big, big money for him.
“If the player has his heart set on moving elsewhere, Newcastle will have to reluctantly move him on and try to bring in a replacement.
“It’s going to drag on, but the player is obviously unhappy and wants to move to Liverpool.
“Newcastle are trying to get top dollar for him, so talks are ongoing between the two clubs and between Isak’s representatives and Newcastle to see if a resolution can be made.
“For everybody involved, they want to get it resolved as soon as possible.
“The longer it drags on, it’s going to leave a cloud hanging over Newcastle and a bit of an atmosphere around the training ground as well.
“Eddie Howe, reluctantly, will be willing to let Isak move on if his heart isn’t with the club any more and then they can use the money to strengthen his squad.”

As they prepare to lose Isak this summer, Newcastle have set their sights on a number of potential alternatives including Brentford star Yoane Wissa.
Football Insider revealed on 2 August that Brentford will reluctantly accept an offer from Newcastle despite having rejected their initial £25million offer.
The clubs are not believed to be far apart in their valuations, and there is a growing belief that Brentford will reluctantly accept offers if they can identify his replacement.
This comes after Football Insider revealed on 15 July that Brentford could demand £50million for Wissa as they intended to price clubs out of the deal before he went on strike.
