It’s been a dramatic few weeks in the transfer market.
Newcastle United’s name has been all over the headlines, often alongside Liverpool and others.
From the Alexander Isak saga to the Benjamin Sesko chase and even social media jabs between fans of clubs, it has been the most talked-about window in recent memory.
Liverpool fans have been watching with interest.
Newcastle’s hunt for reinforcements has been relentless, both in attack and defence.
Eddie Howe has had to deal with a difficult summer, with injuries and squad depth issues dominating his pre-season.
At the same time, rivals have been strengthening, and there has been a real sense of competition between the Premier League’s top sides.
That rivalry has not only been about big names but also about ambition.
Which club is moving fastest!
Which one is convincing players that they are the best place to be?
Those questions have been hanging over this summer, and Newcastle just made another move that highlights their intention to compete amidst all the transfer talk currently ongoing.
On Saturday, AC Milan made a not so surprising decision involving Newcastle target Malick Thiaw.
The German international, linked with a move to St James’ Park, was left out of Milan’s starting lineup for a friendly against Leeds United in Dublin.
That looked like a clear sign, although he eventually came on.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed why.
On X, he wrote, “Malick Thiaw, not starting for AC Milan as he wants Newcastle asap.”
Minutes later, Romano delivered the big update, “Malick Thiaw to Newcastle, here we go.
New centre back for Eddie Howe.”
“Agreement in place for €40m package, add-ons included.”
“AC Milan verbally accepted the proposal.”
“Deal at the final stages as reported earlier and now done.”
“Thiaw only wanted #NUFC?
Medical soon.”
Thiaw, 23, joined Milan from Schalke in 2022 and has built a strong reputation in Serie A.
For Liverpool, this is another sign of Newcastle’s growing pull in the market.
Despite the noise of this summer, Eddie Howe has landed a player who was clear about his preference.
In a window defined by competition, that counts for a lot.
