Newcastle United ambassador Shola Ameobi has sent a firm warning to Alexander Isak as he continues to be the subject of transfer interest from Liverpool.

As reported by the ECHO on Friday morning, the Reds have had a first offer rejected by the Magpies for the forward.

The 25-year-old has been training at his old club Real Sociedad this week after informing Newcastle he wants to move this summer.

Isak still has three years remaining on his deal, but he did not travel with the rest of the Newcastle squad earlier this month for their pre-season tour amid speculation over his future, with the club saying at the time he was absent due to a minor thigh injury.

But speaking before news of Liverpool’s bid broke, Ameobi, who is currently away with Newcastle on their pre-season tour of the Far East in his role as a club ambassador, warned Isak that no one is bigger than the club.

"At the end of the day, this is football and when you are trying to mix it with the best teams, you are going to have great players that other teams want,” he told the Chronicle.

"The thing for us is where we are at as a club, an ownership, we are really ambitious.

We want to do our best for the club.

"They have shown that right from the get go, and that is not going to change.

There are things happening in the background.

“We are really keen to communicate that the club are going to do what is best for the club.

Myself, being somebody who has lived this (Newcastle United) since I was a kid, it is great to see that ambition.

“Not only the manager and the staff, but all the ownership, the exec team, and the board, they are all on the same page and want us to win more trophies.

"Whatever happens will only be what is right for the club and I have great faith that the people who make the decisions will make the right ones long-term."

Before the former forward continued: "No (nobody is bigger than the club).
